NDIANAPOLIS (June 24, 2020) – The Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3), which works with academia, industry, and government to create a hub of national security innovation that helps solve critical defense priorities, is once again expanding its team.
Micah Edmond, Chief Growth Officer
Micah Edmond serves as chief growth officer for the Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3). Prior to joining IN3, Edmond was vice president of Government Affairs at Battelle, the largest independent R&D organization in the U.S. As a direct report to President of Contract Research, Edmond performed multiple roles creating strategy and driving growth.
Edmond has held multiple leadership positions in the public and private sector developing and driving innovation within the national security infrastructure and underlying U.S. industrial base.
His private sector industry credentials include executive roles serving the vice chairman of the National Defense Industrial Association and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association. In each position, Edmond built a coalition of U.S. defense firms, military laboratories, non-profit research institutes and universities advocating for sustained levels of government funding to drive U.S. innovation.
Edmond’s public sector credentials include senior congressional staff management portfolios specializing in science and technology, research and development, and strategic programs including nuclear weapons, national laboratories, space, hypersonics, cyber and microelectronics technology.
As a Marine Corps officer, Edmond served in multiple senior advisory and management roles at the Pentagon. These roles included, speechwriter for the Marine Corps Commandant, Chief of Staff for the Marine Corps general officer managing the service budget and Chief of Staff for a Marine Corps general officer managing the service’s contribution for the 2005 Quadrennial Defense Review and 2005 BRAC Review.
Edmond’s experience also includes appointments to both a Presidential Commission and a Congressional Joint Select Committee in the leadership role as national security staff director. In these roles, he worked to produce legislative and regulatory reforms to balance the federal budget and reduce the national debt within a framework that sustained national security and the innovation and competitiveness of the U.S. industrial base.
As a former major party nominee for Congress, Edmond understands the unique challenges elected officials wrestle with as they debate budget and regulatory guidance.
Edmond received a BA from Williams College and an MA and MBA from Johns Hopkins’ University.
His professional affiliations include the Council on Foreign Relations Term Member and the Tyson’s Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee Board Member.
Anne Ward, Director of Strategic Growth
Anne Ward serves as director of strategic growth for the Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3). Prior to joining IN3, Ward served as associate director of Government Affairs at Battelle, the largest independent R&D organization in the U.S., where she helped create strategy and drive growth. She led and managed the review and analysis process of federal agency budgets, legislation and regulatory actions to identify business opportunities and risk. She also developed and executed government education and advocacy strategies to support business priorities.
Ward has held multiple positions combining federal public policy, industry innovation, academic strategic initiatives and political advocacy providing a rounded perspective on driving innovation within the national security infrastructure and underlying U.S. industrial base.
Previously, at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, Ward served as associate director of Strategic Initiatives. In this role, she oversaw key initiatives including the launch, evolution and growth of the Darden’s opening in and pivot to Northern Virginia.
Ward’s private sector industry credentials also include multiple defense industry trade association roles including; the Aerospace Industries Association, National Security Policy Council, Supplier Management Council and the Workforce Policy Council. Her experience includes industrial base policy, DOD partnerships and the association’s national STEM program.
In addition to federal public policy and industry experience, Ward has managed a number of political campaigns and worked with a variety of PACs and advocacy organizations.
Ward holds a degree in Political Science from Wake Forest University.
