INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 16, 2019 – The Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI) and the Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3) today announced the formation of a strategic alliance allowing both institutes to collaborate on projects relevant to their respective missions.

Under the terms of a recently signed memorandum of understanding, the IBRI and IN3 agreed to collaborate on securing funding, especially federal funding for projects; use of facilities for research and development; management capabilities and leveraging each other’s network of collaborators.INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 16, 2019 – The Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI) and the Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3) today announced the formation of a strategic alliance allowing both institutes to collaborate on projects relevant to their respective missions.Under the terms of a recently signed memorandum of understanding, the IBRI and IN3 agreed to collaborate on securing funding, especially federal funding for projects; use of facilities for research and development; management capabilities and leveraging each other’s network of collaborators.

“Since both institutes have common stakeholders, including the state of Indiana,  Indiana’s research universities and several others, it makes sense for us to work closely together on existing and new projects where our stakeholders are already involved,” said Rainer Fischer, Ph.D., the IBRI’s chief executive officer and chief scientific and innovation officer. “We can achieve results faster and more efficiently by helping industry and academia to collaborate in these efforts, which is our mission.”

Some projects may include:

  • Trusted microelectronics, especially related to biomedical applications, including wearables and devices making use of the Internet of Things (IoT).
  • “Big Data” analytics, especially related to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Million Veteran Program (MVP), a large health database designed to help improve veterans’ health.
  • Biomedical sensors, including deployable Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN), wearable sensors, and laboratory-based analytic systems.

IN3 brings together top leaders from government, military, industry and research universities in collaboration with Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, to solve difficult technical challenges facing the U.S. Department of Defense and industry.

“This partnership with the IBRI adds another level of expertise here in Indiana to help us solve a number of technical challenges that impact lives every day,” said General Gene Renuart, USAF (Ret.), chairman and CEO, IN3. “We know that these kinds of strategic partnerships are essential in creating scientific and technical breakthroughs that can benefit Hoosiers, warfighters and others across the globe.”

About the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute

The Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit and independent applied research institute formed in 2013. The IBRI exists to bring together companies and universities to work collaboratively on interrelated health issues that are of both global significance and have a disproportionate impact on Hoosiers—diabetes, metabolic disease and poor nutrition, and related health data science and analytics. Our motto is Discovery With Purpose, reflecting our commitment to the translation of scientific discovery into improved outcomes. http://indianabiosciences.org

About Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3):
